Louis left his home in Massachusetts to study architecture
and art at Montana State (’69), where he has practiced most of his + 35 year
career. He first became registered to practice architecture in 1974 by the
state of New York while working for a 180 person architectural office. Back to
Montana, he did design-build, his own practice of art and architecture, and
parking design and administration for the City of Missoula. From 1978 through 1986 the U.S. Forest
Service employed him as an Architect, Facility Manager, and Regional Architect,
where he was credited with over 30 completed buildings and specialties of
daylighting, energy conservation, and solar heating and cooling. Back to the
East Coast again, he added to his expanding specialties - environmental
remediation of hazardous building materials and indoor air quality design while
working for an environmental engineering company. These new skills allowed him
to return to Montana in 1993 when an environmental engineering company
recruited him. In 1997 he reestablished his sole practice of art, architecture,
and environmental engineering. His somewhat unique combination of skills has
brought in an expanding number of architectural rendering commission. 2006-7 employed as an architect for the DOD-Army in Hawaii.
Louis has lived and painted his birthplace of New England, in the
southwest, and Montana, where he studied Architecture and art at Montana State, and where he has practiced most
of his career. Additional art education has been over 30 painting workshops
with nationally known artists. In 1996 Louis began teaching his own workshops
and classes on the unique technique of combining watercolor and pastel, his two
media’s, perspective for the artist, and many other art subjects, but continues
to learn via workshops from others. His subject matter is considered extremely
varied, with a specialty of the human figure. His style is evolving from
romantic realism to impressionistic. Louis' work can be viewed in galleries
throughout Montana including the Upper Missouri Artists Gallery of Original
Art in Helena. He is one of its ten founding members, and which is operated
as a ‘joint venture’. Louis has just finished a one year stay in Hawaii. Although employed as an architect for the DOD-Army, he found the time to produced a significant body of watercolors painted on-site of the various islands; and upon his return to the mainland, presented two solo showings specific to this experience.
